The problem

Note apps still optimise for capture inside a garden. Your thinking locks to a format, a subscription, and a roadmap. AI arrives as a bolt-on that still doesn’t know the full history of what you’ve written — unless you paste it into the prompt again.

Why markdown wins in the AI era

Markdown is plain text with just enough structure. Humans read it. Editors open it. Models ingest it without a special exporter. The scarce resource is not another chat box. It is trusted context: decisions and fragments only you have. Those should live as files you control. AI should meet them there.
